We have always been told that we need goals to be successful, what if this wasn't true?
Reading Time: 1 minute
There is a countless amount of books that talk about goal setting. We all share the desire to accomplish our dreams and reach higher levels for our life. They teach you how to have SMART goals, how to work daily and achieve it.
But let me give you a different perspective: what happens when you finally walk through that finish line? Will your motivation still be on fire? Or what if you never get there? Is your happiness compromised because you were waiting to be happy "when.."?
Next time you have a goal try this approach: find a way to enjoy the process and forget about the end goal. Here is why.
"Goals are about the results you want to achieve. Systems are about the processes that lead to those results." (James Clear, Atomic Habits)
If you are looking for progress, you will need to set up systems that allow you to take small steps. Use your goal as a direction and not as an end game.
You shouldn't use goals as the discriminating factor for success and let the survivorship bias win you over: we forget that both successful and unsuccessful people aim for the same goals, but we remember only the first ones, the ones who made it and we easily forget about the rest. Having an ambitious goal won't define if you will make it or not.
So move from your mindset from enjoying winning the goal-game to enjoying playing it while it happens.
