Growth Mindset VS Fixed Mindset

Updated: Jun 29, 2020

Are our skills innate? Can we learn anything we want? Use the right mindset to build a life of success.

At the core of PhD Carol Dweck studies, there is the difference between two kinds of mindset: Growth and Fixed.

The main area researched is intelligence and how it is perceived by people belonging to the two systems.

Let's take a closer look:

- Fixed Mindset: people believe their abilities and character traits are innate, consequently they believe intelligence is static (I was never good in Maths and I never will). However they tend to want to look smart by avoiding challenges and just focusing on the fields where they have succeeded before, to give up easily when facing obstacles and feel threatened by others' success. "Why can they while I can't?"

- Growth Mindset: people believe their skills and personality traits can be developed. There is nothing that can't be fulfilled with study, effort and practice. They love challenges and obstacles make their life even more intriguing. When others succeed, they get inspiration and lessons to learn.

Realizing that you belong to the first group of people can be the first step to a completely new perspective of life. One where our true potential is unknown.

Growth mindset drives people to learn more and better; Fixed Mindset makes you obsessed with people's approval.

Ever thought you were too old to learn? too bad to make it in a certain field? not enough creative or smart or talented?

Here is your new mantra: I can do more than I think. I can be more than I believe.

Finally live happily ever after!
